Enter the wireless Wi-Fi mesh network. Instead of one router generating a Wi-Fi signal for your entire home, mesh networks use multiple, smaller routers called “nodes” to bridge the “dead spot” gaps.

One of these nodes gets plugged in to your modem, just like your current router. The additional nodes strategically placed around the home, will then pick up the wireless Wi-Fi signal and extend it to the surrounding areas wherever they are placed.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MESH NETWORKS AND WIRELESS EXTENDER

What is the difference between a wireless extender and a wireless mesh network?

Previously with an extender, you had to manually connect to the extended network it creates to get the benefit of its increased Wi-Fi coverage. Devices would not seamlessly switch over from the main router network to the extended network, as you move around your home with your connected device.

With today’s wireless Wi-Fi mesh network, you only have a single network name to connect to and you can take advantage of what is called “seamless roaming” or the ability to stay connected to the strongest Wi-Fi signal available – wherever you are within the wireless Wi-Fi mesh network eliminating the need to manually switch over to another Wi-Fi extender name.
